Upcoming events

    • Sunday, November 26, 2017
    • 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
    • Lyric Opera House

After the great success of our partnership with the Lyric Opera in 2016, we are thrilled to have another DANK Haus Night at the Lyric in 2017. Due to the popular demand last year we have expanded this special over three dates. Members, students, volunteers and supporters of DANK Haus get to enjoy an orchestral firework with Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre.

This is the most deeply moving and romantic of all the Ring operas. Its riveting, devastating drama involves complex relationships between brother and sister, husband and wife, father and daughter. Every character is unforgettable—valiant Siegmund and Sieglinde, headstrong Brünnhilde and mighty, tortured Wotan, determined Fricka and vengeful Hunding. Wagner’s music drama burns itself on our memories, exciting us with the emotional intensity of its lyrical outbursts and its incredible power and majesty.

When purchasing your tickets on https://www.lyricopera.org, make sure to use the special promo code DANKHAUS39. (Note – Zone restrictions apply and the code is valid for many, but not all seats at the Lyric).

If you’re not able to attend any of the three special DANK Haus Night events, but still want to see Die Walküre or any other opera at the Lyric, we were able to secure a special 20% discount for all other performances. Simply use the promo code DANKHAUS18 when purchasing your ticket.

A German Holiday: Red Glühwein Gugelhupf Cake with Ingrid Durham

What is a Gugelhupf you say? Though it varies by region, a Gugelhupf is a traditional Bundt-style ring cake which originated from southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Typically, Gugelhupf is lightly spiced and studded with rum-soaked fruit, peel, almonds and chocolate chips, often finished off with a drizzle of icing and a sprinkling of pistachios.  With one whiff of its rum-soaked cinnamon warmth, you'll realize that you've found Christmas right inside your oven! Don't call it Stollen, fruit cake or Lebkuchen--because German Gugelhupf is a unique, one-of-a-kind treat in the hands of pastry chef Ingrid Durham!

Join Ingrid and friends from the DANK Haus to learn the secrets of perfect Gugelhupf cake, just in time for the holidays! Ingrid will also share her favorite recipe for Glühwein: hot spiced wine that warms you up with a holiday glow. Class includes hand-on instruction, recipes, generous samplings, a drink from the bar, and of course, Wohlbehagen.

Our classes feature step-by-step, hands-on instruction, generous samplings, recipes to take home, a drink from the bar, and of course, great camaraderie. Ingrid Dunham brings practical cooking to life, so don't miss it!  Since classes fill up quickly, you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
    Class starts 7:30 pm.
