Willkommen to Intensive Elementary German I

! Class meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This 16 class course is designed for beginning learners of German. You will learn how to communicate effectively in German on a basic level while developing strategies that will help you engage in conversations with native speakers and approach authentic reading material. This class will cover “Einführung A” through "Kapitel 2" of KONTAKTE, 8th edition.

*Note: Tuition does not include textbook.

We encourage you to enroll and work with your instructor on obtaining notes and homework in advance of your planned absence.

*Payment must be received within 15 minutes of registration to avoid cancelling your enrollment. Please contact Monica Felix with any questions.

**Please note that class will not be held on Thursday, July 4th in recognition of the holiday. Your instructor will coordinate a make up session for another date.

The goal is for students to move beyond a reading and writing knowledge and obtain more confidence in speaking.

Join us as we immerse ourselves in the lives and times of the Weimar Republic, the German people’s first taste of Demokratie during a period of extraordinary political, economic and societal turbulence. Tragically sandwiched between the sorry end of Bismarck’s Kaiserreich in 1919 and the very beginning of Adolf Hitler’s diabolical reign in 1933. National demoralization from defeat in war, ruinous hyperinflation via punitive war reparations and sinister political forces arrayed against democracy present Weimar with extreme challenges. Yet Weimar also gives rise to uniquely creative cultural expression which flourishes during the Golden Twenties before being strangled by the great worldwide Depression and rapid ascent of a neo-pagan, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic ideology known as National Socialism.
