Congratulations, you have decided to learn German!

Students in Elementary I & II are in the breakthrough or introductory stage of German language development. They learn to communicate in basic German with the help from a listener (or teacher). Students will learn to use and understand expressions in everyday life and simple sentences to achieve a goal. They will be able to introduce themselves and can ask other about personal details. After elementary I & II, students will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

In this blended learning class, we will focus on reading and writing. It will include three in person meetings and all other session will take place online at your convenience. The readings examine contemporary topics of daily life in the German speaking countries, such as politics, literature, sport, music, etc. The reading lessons will be accompanied by a set of pre- and post-reading activities. Each week, students will work on a written response, based on the readings and express their own views and ideas on the topic. Students will receive feedback on their reading and writing activities. Grammar activities will be completed as well. In addition, students will participate in asynchronous online discussions.

This class will meet on Thursday, January 30 at 6:30pm-8:45pm in Room 206. Two further meetings to be determined and all other classes will be online.

Prerequisites: Due to the flexible structure of the course and the student-centered approach adopted for this class, students at various levels of proficiency may enroll. This class welcomes students who qualify for Elementary German III and IV as well as Intermediate German I and II. In the Saturday Practice Class,

students can practice their German skills. The goal is for students to become more confident speaking German by reinforcing vocabulary knowledge and grammar concepts. It is a wonderful supplement to our Wednesday classes to strengthen previously learned concepts but can be taken on its own to formalize and polish German skills acquired at home or during vacations. The class reinforces skills and concepts from Elementary III (A2.1), but students in Elementary II (A1.2) and in Elementary IV (A2.2) are welcome to join the class to practice their German.

*Payment must be received within 15 minutes of registration to avoid cancelling your enrollment. Please contact danica@dankhaus.com with any questions.

    Minimum Enrollment: 6 Students
