    SUPPORT HIMMEL'S RESTAURANT!

    Tuesday, April 7, 2020

    7:00 PM

    Sign up today for our virtual cooking class with Carol Himmel and $5.00 will go directly to the restaurant! Restaurants, and their employees, nationwide have been directly impacted by the forced closings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of you would like to help - and ensure - that one of our favorite German restaurants remains strong and open long after this crisis has ended and here's how you can help, no matter where you are!

    We are offering a virtual cooking class with Carol Himmel! She will be preparing her famous Schnitzel. If you have ever eaten at her restaurant, you know how delicious this dish is.  Course is 35 minutes long and after the demonstration, students will be able to ask Carol questions.

    How will it work? When you register for the class ($10 per person), you will receive an email confirmation from our system. Later you will receive a second email from (dank@dankhaus.com) that will have a link for the class and a copy of the recipe so you can follow along. In the second email you will have detailed instructions on how to download Zoom.us and tips on making the most of the class.

    Prior to taking the class, you will want to download Zoom.us on your computer or smart phone. This application is free and takes about one minute. We will even help you if are having trouble using the program.

    The class will start EXACTLY at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Simply click on the link, join the class and watch Carol cook! You will be able to see other people on the call and even ask Carol questions at the end of the class.

    $5.00 will go to support Himmel's Restaurant and $5.00 will go to support the DANK Haus.

    VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB SUPPORTING THE BOOK CELLAR OF LINCOLN SQUARE

    April 9th - Introduction Meeting

    April 23rd - Book Review

    Join our book club from the comfort of your own home! Suzy from The Book Cellar has selected our first title, Olive Kitteridge.

    This fictional story is set in Crosby, Maine, where the main character, Olive, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town and in the world at large.  As the townspeople grapple with their problems, mild and dire, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life—sometimes painfully, but always with ruthless honesty. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition—its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires.

    There Is no fee to join the book club. Meetings will be held virtually through Zoom.us on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, until we can meet in real life.

    You may already have the book in your collection, or if you need a copy, you can purchase it online from our local bookstore, The Book Cellar. All books will be shipped in two to three business days.

    PLEASE register for this class so you can receive the link for the virtual meeting. You may also email us at lauraengel@dankhaus.com

    This free professional development session will give you the tools to teach and initiate important discussions about the complex lessons of the Holocaust. In exploring classroom-tested strategies that can be implemented in your classroom or informal teaching setting, you will leave with confidence and materials to tackle the tough questions your students have about this subject. The why. The how.

    WHAT IS ECHOES & REFLECTIONS?

    Echoes & Reflections is the premier source for Holocaust educational materials and dynamic content, empowering teachers and students with the insight needed to question the past and foresight to impact the future. E & R partner with educators to support them, foster confidence, and amplify their skills and resources to teach about the Holocaust in a comprehensive and meaningful way.

    PROGRAM GOALS

    Through this program, educators will:

    1. Explore a sound pedagogy for the planning and implementation of Holocaust education in the classroom;

    2. Examine instructional enhancements to support student learning and understanding;

    3. Discover and utilize classroom-ready digital assets including lesson plans, visual history testimonies, and additional primary source materials;

    4. Enhance personal knowledge about the Holocaust, including the history of antisemitism; and

    5. Build confidence and capacity to teach this complex subject.

    "The ultimate job of a teacher is to make connections to your students with the curriculum. You want them to walk away with a personal sense of responsibility. Echoes & Reflections helps me do that."

    - Social Studies Teacher, Pinebush High School, NY

    This event is free.

    Echoes & Reflections is a joint program of the ADL, USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem.
