This year, a lot will be decided in German politics. We will have several local elections and, toward the end of the year, the big one, the "Bundestagswahl"! It is already clear that Angela Merkel will be out, but who will be in? Die SPD? Die Grünen? Die CDU? Or some other, small party? Or all of them?
If we take the first local election in Baden-Württemberg from last weekend as an indicator for the Bundestagswahl in September, when a new chancellor will be elected (well, not quite directly, but, you know what, if you want to understand the intricacies of the election process, join us for our upcoming "Current Event Schnupperkurs" which will stay on top of everything, and runs for a short, sweet 4 weeks), all bets are off. A lot of those who typically voted for the CDU (a conservative party) crossed lines to vote for the Grüne (a liberal party). So who knows? And also, how would you have voted? Try out the Wahl-O-Meter from the "Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung" here, to see which party aligns with your values, it's fun (some German is needed to use this tool):
We'll be following the Superwahl, so check back occassionally to see how it is going, or follow us on social media!
