Registration for Online Saturday Kinderschule

September 11, 2021 - June 4, 2022 (see calendar).

Our Saturday Kinderschule will take place online for students from 5th grade up. The registration will ask you about your child's age, current grade level and German language background - please elaborate in detail so we can properly place your child. You will be informed about your child's placement before classes start, see below for virtual meeting times.

At our Haus we strive to be respectful and inclusive, and while the German language structure has a rigid binary structure, we are aware of the implications of these norms, and aspire to teach our children a more inclusive way of using these structures. And although there are limitations to what the language allows grammatically, please let us know directly if you have a preferred noun and/or pronoun you and/or your child would like to be addressed with.

Class Details

The Saturday Middle and High School curriculum is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and our committed faculty members deliver immersion language classes that foster intellectual growth and development of German language skills.  Our language school offers two tracks for more individualized language learning to support our students social and linguistic needs. Students in the German Bilingual track must be able to express themselves in German, understand all directions given in German and utilize books which are designed for German elementary schools. In our German newcomer track, we welcome students who are distinctively not confident in German or newcomers to German. This track emphasizes communication, and supports learners with a slower pace, explicit vocabulary learning and lots of repetition. We utilize books which are designed for German as a second language.

Our classes are also accredited pathways to the German language diploma, the Deutsche Sprachdiplom (DSD), with which students can eventually prove the necessary linguistic skills needed to attend a German university. To learn more about our DSD program, click here.

Class Structure

Students will meet with their teacher and their classmates in 90 minute zoom sessions. In addition, students will receive assignments from their teacher via google classroom.
