DANK Haus Chicago Kinderschule was founded in 1964 and has since been the leading German Language School in the Chicagoland area. Throughout the years, the school has treasured and promoted German language and culture and served as a milestone for building a strong German community. Kinderschule collaborates closely with the Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (ZfA) - the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad and is a member of PASCH (Worldwide Network of German Schools).
DANK Haus Kinderschule welcomes native-born German children spending time in the USA, children of German-speaking parents who live permanently in the USA, and non-native children who are motivated to learn German. Our curriculum is carefully developed to meet the needs of different types of learners and is aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards for foreign language learning and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our committed faculty members deliver immersion language classes that foster intellectual growth and reasoning skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects.
Over the course of the school year, children in Preschool and Kindergarten will be exposed to an immersion language class that fosters intellectual growth and pre-literacy skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects. Learning topics include letters, numbers, family, colors, shapes, animals, etc. Kindergarten will ensure a smooth transition between Preschool and Level 1. In addition to improving their German language, children will learn essential social and emotional skills. Children in Preschool and Kindergarten classes must be toilet trained.
Both Preschool and Kindergarten classes are full! Please contact us to be added to our wait list.
Children between the ages of 6 and 14* (*cut-off date is September 1) will build foundational language skills by receiving valuable, immersion classroom instruction tailored to the individual needs of each child. Level 1 welcomes kids from last years' Kindergarten or new students ages 6+ with no/very little prior German instruction in reading/writing.

Please reference our online Placement Test results when submitting your child’s application for ages 7+. These are designed to give us a first evaluation of language skill level and starting placement. Language ability and progress will be closely observed throughout the school year to ensure students are placed in the class that best meets their needs.
Our Placement Tests are designed to be a first evaluation of language skill level and starting placement. Beginning with Test 1, please have your child ages 7+ advance through the test levels as she/he reaches more than 80% with as little direction from you as possible. Please reference your child's test results when registering for the school year.
