MARY OWEN | 2nd VICE President
As a nearby neighbor in North Center and the parent of a Kinderschule student since the 2010-2011 school year, I am pleased to serve on the DANK Haus Board. My grandfather was an American diplomat, stationed in Germany for a time, spoke German and my mother was born in Nurnberg. My own language studies in French did not start until 7th grade, and I have found public-school foreign language instruction in the U.S. frustrating ever since. My husband has German heritage, has been enjoying German food ever since his mother put him in Leiderhosen around age 5, and is the proud owner of a currywurst-schneider!
I am an attorney, in the areas of commercial contracts, business transactions, software licensing, and the occasional employment issue. As a member of the Board, I am focusing on governance and education matters. I have been having fun with volunteering at Stammtisch each month for the past year, and hope to see you there! With two children continuing to attend Kinderschule, I hope to generate greater involvement between the school community and the at-large DANK HAUS members.
