Dr. Monica Felix is the Museum & Collections Manager at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center in Chicago. After receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2017, she took up her role at the DANK Haus in October 2017. She has curated four exhibits for the DANK Haus attending to the German-American experience through the presentation of historical material, artistic productions, and cultural heritage artifacts. Among her recent exhibitions are the 90th Anniversary Exhibit attending to the life and work of German-American architect Paul Gerhardt, Sr. as well as the 2018 Culture Bridge/Kulturbruecke exhibition featuring over 50 artists, poets, painters, dancers, and sculptors. Her current projects include facilitating the assessment and exhibit of the Glory of Germania mosaic – a 125-year-old artifact from the German Village of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. She is also engaged in preserving and digitizing the “Eintracht” German-language newspaper published in Illinois from 1-2017. In 2019, she will spearhead an Oral History Project with the aim of recording interviews with post-WWII generation German-Americans. Dr. Felix has presented on a variety of topics pertaining to German culture over the years at a variety of domestic and international conferences. Her research interests include cultural heritage research and preservation, oral histories, Begriffsgeschichte, literary history, and German aesthetic theory. Email: monicafelix@dankhaus.com
