Virtual Workshop: Marzipan Pigs

Join us at 4pm on Saturday, December 12th for a guided Marzipan Pig workshop! After a short slideshow about German Christmas traditions, join DANK Haus Museum Director Rosa Gallagher as she demonstrates how to make Marzipan Pigs! Plus, she'll show you how to make another easy, yet quite realistic-looking marzipan treat: Kartoffeln (potatoes). This craft is foolproof and can be done by the whole family.

Marzipan is beloved in Germany – this sweet almond-based confection has a centuries-old history in the region. If you give Marzipan Pigs, good luck and delicious flavors will be spread to friends and family this Christmas! Include one of these homemade treats with your stocking stuffers, and suddenly your holiday will have a German flair. Make them again for the New Year, when luck is again on everyone's wish list for 2021. These sweet treats will make anyone feel lucky….

Supplies are not included. You will need:

• Marzipan (not much – 8oz log will make more than enough pigs/potatoes)
• a butter knife for sectioning your marzipan
• red food coloring
• green food coloring
• black or brown food coloring (for the pig's eyes)
• toothpick for drawing eyes
• cinnamon (used to make potatoes)
