Kindergarten Classes

Willkommen zum Kindergarten! In our German immersion Kindergarten classes we teach children between 5 and 6 years old.

Our Kindergarten program is a full-day small-sized program where learning is project based and driven by the children's curiosity. Students will deepen their understanding of the world in Social Studies, Science, PE, arts, language, and math, as laid out by the Illinois State Standards. Students who graduate from Kindergarten will be able to join a German immersion 1st grade, or move on to an English-taught 1st grade, as we are teaching language arts and math in English.

In this age group, we follow an integrated, Montessori-style, mixed age approach, where our Kindergarteners share a learning environment with the older preschoolers for part of the day. For the other part of the day, our Kindergarteners are taught by a dedicated Kindergarten teacher in all subjects according to the Illinois Education Standards.

Kinderschule also nurtures physical well-being through frequent trips to the playground or walks in the neighborhood (weather permitting) and physical education in the DANK Haus. Additionally, our students will venture on field trips that round out the projects they have been working on. Past field trips have been to the Zoo, museums, community centers, and more.

After graduating the weekday preschool and kindergarten, we offer our Community Based Heritage Learning School on Saturdays to maintain our students' German.  

Diversity and Gender Norms

At our Haus, we aim to foster respect and inclusivity. While the German language has grammatically a strict framework, we recognize the implications of these norms and aim to teach our students a more inclusive approach to using the language. And although there are these grammatical limitations, please inform us if you or your child have a preferred noun and/or pronoun you would like to use.

Times and Costs Overview

Drop-In Before or After Care is available at $12.50/hour.

Additionally, there is a one time $120 field trip fee which will be billed during the first invoice. This covers all field trip related costs throughout the school year, from chartering buses to entrance fees and more.

Cost are billed monthly, due on the 1st of the month September through June.

Please contact us for alternative payment schedules, we want to work with you to find a solution.

Sibling Discount: 7% per year for each additional child for full day and half day care. This discount does not apply to before or after care.

Registration

Please pay a one time $500 application fee when registering. This fee will be deducted from the June invoice of the school year, and is non-refundable. Parents withdrawing before the end of the school year will forfeit the deposit.
