at DANK Haus German American Cultural Center

The DANK Haus is always full of programming that contributes to our mission as the cultural hub for German Americans in Chicago.

Our Stammtisch Open Haus, a social evening to connect those with an interest in German Chicago, is held the third Friday of every month. Other events include monthly Kulturküche cooking classes, concerts and exhibits in our Fine Arts series, and special Cultural Events that bring the traditions of Germany to America.

On these pages you will find a sampling of our recurring and upcoming events. Subscribe to our event list for the most up to date information! Also, be sure to read and understand our cancellation and refund policy should it be needed.

For more information on other exciting German functions in Chicago, we encourage you to visit the German Day site.

Join us as we immerse ourselves in the lives and times of the Weimar Republic, the German people’s first taste of Demokratie during a period of extraordinary political, economic and societal turbulence. Tragically sandwiched between the sorry end of Bismarck’s Kaiserreich in 1919 and the very beginning of Adolf Hitler’s diabolical reign in 1933. National demoralization from defeat in war, ruinous hyperinflation via punitive war reparations and sinister political forces arrayed against democracy present Weimar with extreme challenges. Yet Weimar also gives rise to uniquely creative cultural expression which flourishes during the Golden Twenties before being strangled by the great worldwide Depression and rapid ascent of a neo-pagan, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic ideology known as National Socialism.
