Registration for Saturday Kinderschule

Our Saturday Kinderschule will take place in-person for students in K-4th grade to best support their German language development. The registration will ask you about your child child's age, current grade level and please be explicit as possible about your German language background, so we can properly place your child. You will be informed about your child's placement before classes start.

Description

The Saturday Kindergarten/Vorschule welcomes kids who are 5-7 years old. Over the course of the school year, children in Kindergarten will be exposed to a play-based* immersion language class that fosters intellectual growth and pre-literacy skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects. In addition to improving their German language, children will learn essential social and emotional skills.  In Kindergarten we are not working with work- or vocabulary sheets.

In the Saturday Elementary School, students in first grade receive formal instructions in reading and writing in German. Our curriculum is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and our committed faculty members deliver immersion language classes that foster intellectual growth and reasoning skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects. Our language school now offers two tracks for more individualized language learning to support our students social and linguistic needs. Students in the German Bilingual track must be able to express themselves in German, understand all directions given in German and utilize books which are designed for German elementary schools. In our German newcomer track, we welcome students who are distinctively not confident in German or newcomers to German. This track emphasizes communication and supports learners with a slower pace, explicit vocabulary learning and lots of repetition. We utilize books which are designed for German as a second language.

Health and Safety Precautions: Please review our DANK Haus Kinderschule Health and Safety Policy.  We will offer small classes sizes with a maximum of 8-10 students, disinfecting class rooms and toys after every class, temperature checks for students, parents and teachers, and staggered drop off times at multiple entrances to avoid crowds.
