German Grilling with the Chopping Block (Online)

Join us online on July 7th at 5:00 PM CST for an online cooking class with Chef Hans of The Chopping Block!

We are offering a virtual cooking class with Hans Mooser from The Chopping Block! He will be demonstrating the delicious wonders of German Grilling and will be preparing Marinated Grilled Brats with Horseradish Sauce and Potato SaladGrilled Pork Filets with Butter Lettuce and Mâche Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and Bratapfel (Baked Apples on the Grill with Cinnamon and Sugar a la Mode). 

The course is about one hour long, and students will be able to ask Chef Hans questions throughout the demonstration. Students are welcome to cook along in real time as he shows you how to make traditional German fare via a Zoom Cook Along.

How will it work? When you register for the class ($10 per person), you will receive an email confirmation from our system. The day before the event, Tuesday, you will receive a second email from (dank@dankhaus.com) that will have a link for the class and a copy of the recipe so you can follow along. 

We recommend that you download Zoom prior to attending this class.

The class will start promptly at 5:00 PM (CST) on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Simply click on the link, join the class and watch Hans cook! You will be able to see other people on the call and even ask Hans questions at the end of the class.

Want to cook along? Ingredients include:

Marinated and Grilled Brats with Horseradish Sauce

  • 4 Bratwurst
  • 1 Cup beer
  • 1 medium-size onion, thinly sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 Cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons horseradish
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • 1 Tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped

Potato Salad

  • 1 pound red skin potatoes
  • 1 small red onion, diced small
  • 2 Tbsp whole grain mustard
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • 2 Tbsp fresh parsley, rough chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste

Grilled Pork Filets

  • 3 Tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 onion, medium diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp fresh thyme, rough chopped
  • 1 Tbsp fresh rosemary, rough chopped
  • Tabasco to taste
  • 4 5-ounce boneless pork chops
  • 4 Broetchen rolls (traditional German rolls)

Butter Lettuce Salad Mustard Vinaigrette

  • 1/4 pound radishes, thinly sliced
  • 1 head butter lettuce, torn into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 Tbsp fresh parsley leaves
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 Tbsp Champagne vinegar
  • 1 shallot, finely minced
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Bratapfel (Baked Apples on the Grill with Cinnamon and Sugar)

  • 1 1/4 cup raisins
  • Rum for soaking the raisins
  • 4 medium-sized apples, hollowed out
  • 1 1/4 cups walnuts, rough chopped
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/3 Cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1 1/2 Cups milk
